The Munich painter Rupprecht Geiger (*1908 - †2009) is regarded as one of the most important artists in post-war Germany. In an extensive exhibition, his works on canvas and the large-format works filling whole rooms can be seen complementing the architecture of Halle 9. Geiger’s creativity exemplifies a tireless striving to research colour and its visualisation possibilities – to which end he uses specific daylight pigments. The pioneering occupation with irregular image formats is revealed in the six-part painting series Geist and Materie (Spirit and Matter) from 2003/2004, three of which can be seen.
