Peter Zimmermann's colourful epoxy resin paintings are based on digital templates, such as photos, film stills or diagrams, which he deconstructs and alienates by means of graphic algorithms and transfers to the canvas in numerous transparent layers. Since 2014, he has also been translating processed digital image templates with oil painting.
Peter Zimmermann, born 1956 in Freiburg im Breisgau, studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, was a professor at the Kunsthochschule für Medien, Cologne, 2002-2007, lives and works in Cologne. His works are in numerous private and public collections, such as the Bundeskunstsammlung in Bonn, the Prada Collection, Milan and the Fondation Cartier, Paris.
